Unity Bands Hosts “Air Unity” Event to Celebrate and Support Certified Nursing Assistants in Training

Unity Bands hosted its Air Unity event on April 14 at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UMBWMC), bringing together community partners to uplift and support the next generation of frontline healthcare workers.

The event honored and supported a cohort of 8 Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) currently in training from BWMC and the surrounding local community. As aspiring healthcare professionals prepare to step into critical caregiving roles, Air Unity is designed to recognize their dedication, resilience, and commitment to patient care. Unity Bands donated 59 pairs of shoes to healthcare heroes to date.

The event was generously sponsored by Shore United Bank, whose partnership reflects a shared commitment to investing in healthcare workers and strengthening local communities. In addition, Rise Up Coffee Roasters donated fresh coffee for the students, helping create a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere as trainees gather in celebration and connection.

Certified Nursing Assistants are essential to the heartbeat of healthcare. Air Unity is Unity Bands’ way of standing beside these students, reminding them that their work matters and that their community believes in them.

Founder, John Schirrippa, who suffered a leg injury in January, saw the impact of healthcare heroes first hand. “They deliver the best care,” he said, “Everyone from the nursing assistants to the techs. We should probably be calling them angels.”

Unity Bands is a non profit organization dedicated to promoting hope, unity and appreciation for healthcare workers through community driven initiatives and partnerships. By collaborating with hospitals, businesses, and volunteers, Unity Bands continues to champion those who care for others every day.
